Pittsburgh, PA – The Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority (PWSA) and Peoples Natural Gas (Peoples) will continue collaborative infrastructure improvement efforts in the Upper Lawrenceville community. This partnership will limit construction impact and inconvenience to residents while saving considerable time and money for both organizations and customers. Construction projects are underway and include pipeline replacement upgrades for gas and water lines.
“Utilities working together to coordinate priority capital projects is a significant step forward for long-term savings and efficiency,” said PWSA Interim Executive Director David Donahoe. “We look forward to continuing our partnership with Peoples on future projects.”
Peoples Director of Operations/Restoration, Kenneth J. Lyle, agreed. “These types of utility partnerships result in better organization and less disruption for our customers, as well as resulting in lasting infrastructure and surface improvements.”
PWSA’s Water Main Replacement Project consists of approximately 7,200-linear feet of new 8-inch ductile iron pipe, including service lines, gate valves, and fire hydrants on sections of Carnegie Street, Holmes Street, Duncan Street, Poe Way, Kent Way, Keystone Street, 52nd Street, 54th Street, and 55th Street. The existing 6-inch water main will be cut, capped, and abandoned in place.
People’s Pipeline Replacement Project consists of approximately 3,600-linear feet of 2-, 4-, and 6-inch bare steel pipeline replacement with new plastic pipeline and 208 service line renewals on sections of Carnegie Street, Holmes Street, Duncan Street, and Poe Way.
Construction updates will be communicated to residents on a regular basis. Once construction is complete, PWSA and Peoples will share the cost of final paving and restoration on the impacted streets.
The Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority (PWSA) provides water and sewer services to more than 300,000 consumers throughout the City of Pittsburgh and surrounding areas.
Peoples is the largest natural gas distribution company in Pennsylvania. It provides reliable and low cost natural gas service to approximately 700,000 homes and businesses in Western Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Kentucky.
