Demystifying the water treatment process

PWSA recently hosted a tour of the Water Treatment Plant for our partners in the industry and construction spaces.
Ross Pump Station The Ross Pump Station, a key facility at our Water Treatment Plant, draws water from the Allegheny River, beginning the treatment process.

Did you know?...

  • On average, PWSA treats 65 to 75 million gallons of drinking water per day…
  • Our Water Treatment Plant is capable of much more – over 100 million gallons per day…
  • The entire treatment process takes several days and is made up of four key stages…

There’s a lot that goes into the process that draws raw water from our source – the Allegheny River – and ultimately delivers treated, high-quality water to homes and businesses. To demystify that process and engage more with some of the stakeholders that help make our work possible, PWSA recently hosted a tour of the Water Treatment Plant for our partners in the industry and construction spaces.

Joining Frank Sidari, PWSA’s Chief Environmental Compliance & Ethics Officer, representatives from the local chapter of the African American Chamber of Commerce, the Master Builders’ Association, the Commercial Real Estate Development Association, and more were treated to a first-hand look at the different stages of our water treatment process.

Touring the treatment plant is a great learning experience, and it imparts on attendees an appreciation for all that’s involved in the process that delivers safe, high-quality drinking water to you.

In the recent past, we’ve hosted tours for trade schools, local school districts, vocational-technical school groups, and non-profits at the Water Treatment Plant. Currently, we’re offering a limited number of pre-scheduled tours. To inquire about a tour, please contact us on our Water Quality & Treatment webpage.
