Pittsburgh, PA - Pittsburgh Water is launching its 2026 street restoration season with a $29 million investment to permanently restore streets, sidewalks, and public spaces impacted by water and sewer repair work across the city.
The program focuses primarily on locations where emergency or scheduled repairs required temporary restoration. Crews will return to these sites to complete permanent repairs including paving, concrete work, brick restoration, and landscaping.
In 2025, Pittsburgh Water restored approximately 800 locations with a $16.5 million restoration budget. With expanded funding in 2026, the utility plans to restore approximately 1,305 sites citywide, allowing crews to accelerate progress on locations that have been temporarily restored following essential repairs.
“When our crews respond to water main breaks or complete other essential repairs, our first priority is restoring the service safely and quickly,” said Pittsburgh Water Chief Engineering Officer Rachael Beam. “This program allows us to return to those locations and complete permanent restoration, so neighborhoods see the full benefit of the work.”
To complete restoration efficiently, crews will work neighborhood by neighborhood across the city, addressing multiple sites in the same area before moving to the next location. This approach helps maximize the number of sites that can be restored during the construction season.
The expanded investment will allow Pittsburgh Water to make significant progress restoring locations across the city during the utility’s 2026 street restoration season, which will run from March 27 to October 30.
By completing permanent restoration after essential water and sewer repairs, the program improves road conditions, enhances pedestrian safety, and ensures communities see the full benefit of the utility’s work underground.
