Immersing students in the science of safe water

Engaging with our communities is a critical part of our work here at PWSA. A key element of our community engagement focus is to connect Pittsburgh students and youth with our work through interactive, hands-on learning experiences. Designed to build trust in our tap water, shed light on the water treatment process, and spark young learners’ curiosity, our outreach programs and workshops are developed with young scientists in mind!

Just this summer, PWSA has served an estimated 250 students through a variety of water-based learning experiences at libraries, schools, museums, and other organizations across our service area. From lab-style water quality workshops to hands-on experimentation with our EnviroScape watershed model, students learned more about the work that goes into producing and delivering clean, high-quality drinking water.

Educational experiences are available for kids in pre-K through high school, are aligned with state educational standards, and are thoughtfully designed to be age-appropriate and accessible. Through direct participation in guided activities, every learner can build a personal connection to PWSA’s commitment to serve as protectors of public health and stewards of water, the vital resource we all share.

Find educational videos and many great resources for students and community members of all ages on our Educational Resources Page. Be sure to check out our latest educational video, A Water Drop’s Journey, and discover the steps your water undergoes as it moves through the treatment process.
