Following years of hard work and dedication, Pittsburgh Water was recently recognized at the national level for its remarkable stewardship of an essential public resource – your water – with the Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies’ (AMWA) Gold Award for Exceptional Utility Performance.

With lead levels at historic lows, increased investments that will strengthen and modernize our water system, and an organizational culture focused on protecting the health and well-being of our customers, the Gold Award is representative of Pittsburgh Water's transformative journey towards the high-performing, trusted public water utility you see at work today.

The AMWA Gold Award recognizes member water systems that exhibit high levels of performance in the management and leadership of their water utility. Utilities are selected based on their performance in areas like product quality, customer satisfaction, employee and leadership development, operational optimization, financials, and more.

In particular, Pittsburgh Water was recognized by AMWA for accomplishments including:

  • Our annual Water Quality Reports, which consistently show that we meet and exceed all regulatory standards.
  • Our nationally applauded lead safety and remediation Community Lead Response program. We've replaced nearly 12,000 lead services lines through since 2016.
  • Our once-in-a-generation Water Reliability Plan projects.

With this award, Pittsburgh Water joins an esteemed group of leading water utilities throughout the country. Last year, Pittsburgh Water received AMWA’s inaugural Environmental Justice and Equity Utility Management Award.
