Sewer Rehabilitation Work in Hazelwood

In Construction Sewer

Pittsburgh Water is completing two separate infrastructure improvement projects in Hazelwood. The first involves rehabilitating sections of the sewer system using Cured‑in‑Place Pipe (CIPP) lining, a trenchless method that renews the interior of existing pipes and improves reliability while minimizing surface disruptions. The second project focuses on water‑main rehabilitation to upgrade aging drinking‑water infrastructure and reduce the risk of future breaks.

CIPP sewer‑lining activities will begin in Hazelwood starting in October 2026, including cleaning, pipe preparation, liner installation, and post‑installation inspections. Crews are progressing through targeted segments of the sewer network and coordinating with residents in advance of any localized impacts.

Water‑main rehabilitation work is moving through a planned sequence of replacements throughout Hazelwood, with the final restorations completed in late summer 2027. Upcoming locations include:
Gertrude Street (Flowers Avenue to East Elizabeth Street), Glen Caladh/Morse Way, Tecumseh Street, East Elizabeth Street, Orinoco Street, Ashton Avenue, Mansion Street, Johnston Avenue, Glenwood Avenue, Winston Street, Gertrude Street (Lynda Way to Mansion Street), Mansion Street (Gertrude Street to Glenwood Street), Glenwood Avenue, Almeda Street, Cust Street, Sunnyside Street, and Renova Street. This phased approach allows crews to upgrade aging mains and improve water service quality while managing construction impacts block by block.

These improvements may require temporary traffic changes or brief service interruptions, and Pittsburgh Water will notify residents in advance of any impacts. Together, these projects support a safer, more dependable water and sewer system for the Hazelwood community.
