Meet Ana Bennett, our Senior Project Manager for Wastewater, Stormwater, and Green Infrastructure!
Get an up-close look into Ana's professional background, what brought her to Pittsburgh Water, and how she manages critical infrastructure projects in her areas of focus.
Tell us about your role at Pittsburgh Water and your typical responsibilities.
My primary responsibilities include identifying and prioritizing stormwater improvements, and managing stormwater projects from planning through design and implementation. In my role, I focus on solutions that reduce flooding, improve water quality, and strengthen our infrastructure.
How did you find your way to Pittsburgh Water and what do you enjoy about working here?
Growing up in the Catskills, I developed an appreciation for the importance of protecting stormwater and our natural waterways. I grew up across the street from one of the reservoirs that supplies much of New York City’s drinking water, and I saw firsthand how critical it is to manage stormwater runoff and protect water quality. That experience inspired me to pursue a career in stormwater engineering. I enjoy the variety of the work; every project is different, and it’s rewarding to know our projects are benefiting the people who live and work in our community.
How do the contributions of you and your colleagues impact the customers and community members who live and work in our service area?
Here at Pittsburgh Water, our stormwater projects provide tangible differences in people’s lives. Whether we're working on a stormwater management project to protect residents from localized flooding, or stream restoration projects designed to improve water quality and create healthier, more enjoyable spaces for the community, the work we do is much needed in a city with as many hills and waterways as Pittsburgh.
What was your first job? Did it teach you anything that still rings true today?
My first job was working on a farm planting and harvesting vegetables. It taught me the importance of hard work, reliability, showing up every day, being dependable, and taking pride in doing even the most routine tasks. Those lessons still resonate. Successful projects rely on consistency, accountability, and teamwork!
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Outside of work, you’ll find me at a playground, hiking or traveling, keeping my 1.5 year old entertained, and spending time with my family and our dog, Charlie. We enjoy spending time outside and like to run and bike around the city to see what’s going on.
What are your favorite challenges to tackle?
One of the challenges I enjoy most is solving complex stormwater problems that have a direct impact on the community. I find it rewarding to develop practical long-term solutions that not only address infrastructure needs but also create lasting community assets that residents can enjoy.
What’s something you’re planning on doing in the next year that has you excited?
I’m most excited about welcoming my second child this year. Looking forward to the new experiences and perspectives that come with it.
