Pittsburgh, PA – Will Pickering, Chief Executive Officer of Pittsburgh Water, has been appointed by the Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to their National Drinking Water Advisory Council (NDWAC). His two-year term is effective immediately.
“It’s an honor to join this distinguished group of professionals committed to safe and reliable drinking water across the nation,” said Pickering. “I am proud to share the lessons we’ve learned in Pittsburgh and contribute to the national drinking water policy conversations at NDWAC,” he said.
At the helm of Pittsburgh Water, Pickering is leading water quality and safety initiatives that are having a direct, positive effect on public health and the environment. Pittsburgh Water has implemented the award-winning, nationally recognized Community Lead Response, is ramping up investment in its ambitious capital program including the generational projects making up the Water Reliability Plan, and is conducting effective water quality testing to deliver safe, reliable drinking water to customers. With this experience, Pickering is positioned to make meaningful contributions to the Advisory Council that will influence national water policy. His appointment was recommended by the Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies, where he serves as a member of its Board of Directors.

During his tenure, Pittsburgh Water has received national recognition for improving drinking water quality by replacing over 12,000 lead service lines, rehabilitating critical water and sewer infrastructure, and implementing assistance programs to ensure all customers can access safe and reliable water services.
About the National Drinking Water Advisory Council
The prestigious NDWAC council is composed of 15 members who offer independent advice and recommendations to the EPA on national drinking water policies. The council’s diverse membership includes professionals from state and local water and health sectors, academics, citizen water advocates, and rural area representatives, as well as two representatives from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention who serve as liaisons. Members may contribute to working groups, policy recommendations, advice letters, and reports on specific water-related issues
