Pittsburgh, PA - Pittsburgh Water has launched a new interactive map that gives customers an easy way to explore green infrastructure and stormwater projects constructed throughout the service area, highlighting investments that help reduce flooding, improve water quality and enhance neighborhoods.
“Stormwater affects every neighborhood in Pittsburgh, and these projects demonstrate how we’re investing in solutions that improve quality of life while strengthening our infrastructure for the future,” said Pittsburgh Water CEO Will Pickering. “This new interactive map gives customers a transparent, easy-to-use way to see how we’re working alongside communities to reduce flooding, improve water quality, and build a more resilient Pittsburgh.”
Unlike traditional stormwater systems that quickly move rainwater into pipes, green infrastructure works with nature by capturing, slowing and absorbing rainfall where it lands. Features such as rain gardens, permeable pavement, bioswales, native landscaping, and underground stormwater storage help reduce runoff before it enters the sewer system, easing pressure on aging infrastructure during heavy rain.
