Hitting new Customer Assistance Program milestones in 2024

Giving customers peace of mind through financial support.
PGH2O Cares Analysts Eve Kopicki, Sarah Hall, and Ruth Walker tabling at ALCOSAN's Open House.

At Pittsburgh Water, we know access to safe, affordable water services is a non-negotiable. Our PGH2O Cares team works endlessly to bolster enrollment in our Customer Assistance Programs and offer financial relief to our most vulnerable customers.

Last year, we expanded our Customer Assistance Programs by increasing income eligibility for the Bill Discount Program from 150% of the federal poverty level to 200%, making this essential program available to more customers.

Customers also benefitted from an expansion of our Hardship Grant Program. It now includes two separate annual grants, one for drinking water and one for wastewater, for up to $450 each. In 2024, we hit an enrollment milestone of more than 8,000 customers in the Bill Discount Program and have distributed more than $940,000 to eligible customers since 2018 through the Hardship Grant Program.

We also updated our Bill Discount Program and Winter Moratorium application. The new format streamlines the application process, allowing households to apply for and recertify enrollment in multiple public utility assistance programs simultaneously.

None of this would be possible without our PGH2O Cares team! Last year, they handled over 9,000 inbound customer calls, made over 5,000 outbound ones, and processed over 4,400 applications.

If you or someone you know may qualify for Customer Assistance Programs, please visit www.pgh2o.com/CAP, call 412-255-2457 or email cares@ pgh2o.com.
