Pittsburgh Water will restore streambanks along Glass Run Road in Hays Woods as well as an unnamed tributary that leads to Chartiers Creek near Broadhead Fording Road in Fairywood. This work is part of its Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System compliance.

Progress & Status

Construction Complete
  • Construction has begun at the unnamed stream near Broadhead Fording Road as well as the streambank on Glass Run Road. Vegetation has been cleared from the streambank and trees have been taken down and saved to be used as water channelizers.

Project Overview:

The unnamed stream near Broadhead Fording Road work includes:

  • 450 feet of the stream restoration for long-term stability.
  • Stabilization matting will be placed along the bottom of the stream channel. Structures will be installed using rock and tree materials repurposed from the site.
  • Rock Cross Vane structure will be installed to mitigate stream flow rates across elevation changes, creating ripple pools along the channel.

The Glass Run work includes:

  • 350 feet of stream restoration for long-term stability.
  • Stabilization matting will be placed along the bottom of the stream channel and structures will be installed using rock and tree materials repurposed from the site.
  • There will be tree removal, site grading, and cut-and-fill slopes associated with this project.
  • An existing 18-inch sanitary sewer located within the project area will be encased in concrete for 173 feet where it crosses the proposed stream channel.

There will be tree removal and site grading associated with both locations in this project.
