Troy Hill’s water and sewer systems contain infrastructure that in many cases is several decades old and well beyond its expected service life. Some sewer mains date back to the mid‑1800s, while drinking water lines average 80 years old, reinforcing the need for continued upgrades and rehabilitation. Maintaining reliable water delivery and managing wastewater safely requires routine upgrades, replacement of worn parts, and improvements to both water distribution and sewer collection systems. Pittsburgh Water is investing significantly in the Troy Hill neighborhood to ensure long‑term reliability and reduce service interruptions.

This work includes sewer lining and trenchless rehabilitation to strengthen aging pipes, targeted excavation where needed, and sewer separation or relocation in areas where system layout poses risks. Water system improvements include replacing water mains, upgrading pump stations and reservoirs, and reducing lead exposure by continuing the citywide lead service line replacement program. Restoration of streets and sidewalks follows each phase as weather permits. Together, these combined efforts will help improve water quality, reduce sewer overflows, extend the lifespan of vital infrastructure, and enhance service for the Troy Hill community.
