Community Engagement and Events

Water quality experiment at BikePGH event A Public Affairs team member brings water quality science to a curious young learner at one of our many 2024 community events

Pittsburgh Water hosted five Water Workshops in June 2024 to build awareness and greater confidence in the quality and safety of the drinking water our customers rely on every day.

Each session included time for attendees to interact with storyboards describing the water treatment process, the distribution system, and our Water Reliability Plan. They also participated in hands-on experiments that replicate essential water quality tests, and tasted the difference between tap, kiosk, and bottled water.

The workshops also provided a comprehensive presentation about Pittsburgh Water, our service area, the vital role of the Allegheny River as our source water, the treatment process, and our commitment to delivering safe drinking water to our customers. Attendees were able to work one-on-one with team members from our Water Treatment Plant, Environmental Compliance and Engineering departments, and representatives from our PGH2O Cares team.

In addition to these Water Workshops, Pittsburgh Water attended 11 local community meetings across the city to provide a State of Pittsburgh Water presentation. State of Pittsburgh Water is a conversation series focused on engaging residents in an open discussion about the reinvestment of ratepayer dollars back into our water system, ongoing and upcoming projects affecting their community, and details and eligibility requirements for our Customer Assistance Programs. In total, we hosted or attended nearly 150 public meetings throughout the year.
