Leak Credit Request

Did an unknown leak cause a spike in your water bill? We may be able to help.

What is a leak credit? If you receive a water bill that is much higher than normal because of a leak you did not know about, you may qualify for a leak credit. If you meet the following requirements, Pittsburgh Water may lower your high bill and charge you only what you normally use in a month.  Your normal usage is based on your average water use from the past 12 months before the leak started.

How can I qualify? To get this credit, you must show proof that the leak has been fixed.

To prove the leak has been repaired, you must provide one of the following:

  • A bill from a licensed plumber that explains where the leak was and how it was repaired,
  • A letter or email from the plumber explaining the leak and the repair, or
  • If you fixed the leak yourself, a receipt for the materials you bought and a letter or email from you explaining where the leak was and how you repaired it.

In addition to providing proof of repair, you also must sign up for all free leak alerts in the Customer Advantage portal to qualify for a potential leak credit. These alerts tell you by text or email if your water use suddenly goes up.
