Highland I Reservoir Security Improvements
To maintain the open Highland I Reservoir as a public amenity, we are constructing several projects to meet stricter state water quality regulations and security improvements. These projects will improve the security of our drinking water.
Herron Avenue Water Main Replacement Project
This project, in the Polish Hill neighborhood of the City of Pittsburgh, will replace approximately 1,000 feet of aging water main, providing more reliable water service to our customers. This site was scheduled for replacement after several water main breaks occurred on this portion on Herron Avenue in winter of 2017 and 2018. As part of the main replacement, we will replace all public water service lines, including lead water service lines, with a non-lead material. If a public lead service line is connected to a private lead line, we will replace it at the same time at no cost to the customer.
Centre & Herron Stormwater Project
This project at the intersection of Centre and Herron avenues directs runoff from surrounding streets into a cascading 585 foot-long bioswale, where it is absorbed by plants or soaks into the ground. Additional stormwater flows into underground storage tanks and is slowly released into the sewer system.
Rosedale Runoff Reduction Project
We collaborated on two Nine Mile Run Watershed Association stormwater management projects in the East Hills Neighborhood. At Oakwood and Batavia Streets, runoff is redirected into roadside ditches. At Crescent Elementary School, runoff from the street and the school is redirected into rain gardens.
